Anne Rolls Over Back to Tummy!

On Monday Anne rolled over from her back to her tummy for the first time!  She had a couple of successful rolls, followed by a bunch of failed rolls, but by the end of the day she had it down pat.  The next day she was rolling to her tummy without any hesitation or trouble.

Now Anne rolls over whenever we put her down.  In the morning we often find that she has rolled from her back to her tummy in her crib and she is just lying there cooing.  Alas, she seems to have forgotten how to roll from her tummy to her back.  Although she is better at tummy time, she still doesn't like it, so after a couple of minutes on her tummy she always starts to fuss.  If you put her on her back again, she will roll onto her tummy again right away.

The last few weeks have been terrible for Anne's sleep.  She seemed to decide not to want to go to sleep at all, and when we did finally manage to get her down she would only sleep for a short period before waking up again.  Sometimes she would get so tired that she would have screaming fits and it was very difficult to calm her.  Jeff and I had a few awful nights where we got practically no sleep at all.  We wondered for a bit if she was teething, but we have seen no sign of a tooth.

Thankfully, Anne seems to be over the worst of it and we think it may have been caused by a combination of her being too hot at night (perhaps her fat reached a tipping point where she just couldn't sleep in her swaddle without being too hot) and by her just needing less sleep during the day as she grows older.  We are experimenting with two or three naps a day rather than her usual four.  We are also putting her in cooler clothing (or even no clothing at all on a hot day) rather than swaddling her up.   So far, we have been sleeping much better during the night.  We are still working on getting the daytime nap schedule down pat.

Anne is growing increasingly more vocal each day.  Starting about three days ago, she has taken to cooing as soon as she wakes up.  Rather than upset noises, we just hear her gurgling away in her crib for 10 or 15 minutes before she decides it's time we had better come and get her.  :)

Anne's coordination is also getting much better.  She is very good at holding her toys, and starting just a couple of days ago she now looks for a toy that she has dropped!  Before this if she dropped a toy that was the end of it.

As minor as rolling over and looking for toys may be, I am getting pretty excited about Anne's progress!  It means that she is starting to make choices about what she wants to do and where she wants to be.  She will soon be the master of her own destiny!  I can hardly wait until she can sit up on her own.
