Charlie is One Month Old

Charlie turned one month old on October 5th.  On October 7th, he had his one-month check-up with the doctor.  He weighed in at a whopping 5.03 kg (11 lbs 1 oz, 80th percentile).  This is a pretty impressive weight considering he only weighed 8 lbs, 13 oz at his two-week check-up.  This kid eats a lot.  He is 57.3 cm tall (22.5", 90th percentile) with a head circumference of 38.1 cm (15", 75th percentile).

Charlie is doing much better in the sleep department.  For a while there, he was only sleeping 1-2 hours at a stretch, which was very exhausting for our family.  A little bit of mastitis thrown into the mix made it even more fun.  Fortunately, he now seems to sleep between 2 hours and 4.5 hours at a stretch, which means we only have to get up two or three times a night.

During the day, Charlie mostly sleeps although he has been waking for longer and longer stretches.  He often has at least one bout of grumpiness (usually due to gas), and the rest of the time he seems bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.  We did cave early and offered him a soother at about 3.5 weeks in order to help him through some of his gassy periods.

Charlie now seems to love his baths.  Even if he is upset, the warm water seems to sooth him.  I wonder if he will love the water as much as Anne does.

Anne is a fabulous big sister.  She is very concerned about Charlie and will often tell us to go pick him up when he is fussy.  If he starts fussing in the car, Anne immediately starts singing Twinkle Twinkle to him.  She is eager to go and fetch burp cloths or soothers or whatever to help make Charlie happy.

Anne is really enjoying preschool.  There are no more tears when Jeff drops her off, and she always seems happy at the end and excited to go back the next time.  She has done all sorts of fun activities, such as painting, bathing dolls, playing in the sand table, etc.

Funny things Anne says:

  • While looking at Daddy's Reebok shirt, "There are some little e's!  Can we cut them out?"
  • Mom says to Dad: "Should we go to the ibrary-lay today?"  (using Pig Latin)
Anne says: "I want to go to the library-ay!  What are we talking about?"
  • "I'm rubbing my tummy with a goldfish cracker.  Why?  Because I like it!"
